Not Just A Civil Servant

Just finished reading the treasury of experience: 'Not Just A Civil Servant' by Mr Anil Swarup. Ranging from the successful roll-out of Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana, the pathway to Project Monitoring Group, Coal Block Auction to his efforts in bringing Education System back on track, this book has instances of events that we just hear in news from a 3rd person.

Mr Anil shares his enormous experience as a bureaucrat. From sensitive information like the Babri Masjid case to the issues of great national importance like coal block auction to the drama of class 10 and 12 question paper leak, he has penned down a must-read experience for people who wonder what an honest bureaucrat has to go through to implement and make a policy successful.

However unrelated, just to quote an instance:

“The transfer order was expected, and in fact desired. It came because of the stand I took against oral directions from the CM’s office to suspend officers working in the department headed by me.”

Having read the whole book in a couple of sitting, I can get some idea of the working of bureaucracy. So, I would call it insightful.

We think anger is wrong whereas it is of 2 types: C onstructive and D estructive. Do we really need anger? Short answers: In career, yes. In relationship, maybe not. We need some kind of anger with problems to find solutions. Otherwise you must have heard about 'chalta hai' attitude in India. Compromise and adjustment: these doesn't need anger. We ignore our problems and our situation gets worse. It is called escapism. Escaping anger with the help of distractions can...

Change

C hanges are good. It teaches you something new. But the catch is: you may not like it. In fact, it's not easy. It needs rewiring of brain cells that further requires personal effort.  Wouldn't it be better if we keep growing? Picture of the month: A few days back I left my home and went on a journey to an unknown destination. Took a train, reached a village and the rest is one of a memorable experience. It sounds naive, but sometimes you have to do what you have to do and it has no explanation. (Do it cautiously though). Personal Rambling: It kind of makes me sad to say that this is the final newsletter. I am so grateful to you for sticking with me and watching me go crazy with words and photos and whatnot. This small initiative was my way of expressing myself and talking/writing to people. Your replies and thoughts and support meant the world to me. Thank you ♡ I have grown in this while and changed as a person for the good—still a work in progress but more disciplined than b...
