Expectation vs Hope

For me expectation is actually the antonym of hope. If we expect something we assume that it will happen. If it happens, then it's normal, nothing special to be happy or excited about. If it doesn't happen, then it gives us reasons to be angry, disappointed, frustrated and depressed. Hope, on the contrary, give us reasons to be happy. If we hope for something, we assume that the chances of it happening are rather slim, but it would be nice if it happened. If it doesn't happen, then it is normal, nothing to be worried or angry about. If it does happen, then it gives us reasons for excitement, joy and happiness. It's why people with high expectations often are angry and frustrated, because the two 'mental states' they can be in are: 'normal' or frustrated. People with no expectations and big hopes are usually cheerful and happy, because for them the two 'mental states' they can be in are: 'normal' or joyful.
